Hey, is this thing on? (tap tap tap) We're back from Las Vegas and the 2024 NAB Show, and after having a Brief Respite (which sounds like it should be a cocktail), we're back at our desks, slaving over a hot keyboard. It's the perfect time to drop a note to say Thank You! for coming to see us and the exciting new broadcast products we debuted during our time in the City By The Sand. If you couldn't attend this year, no worries - we'll fill you in on all the details.
Five New Product Awards? We're blushing.
Receiving an award is cool. Two awards? Well, that's pretty exciting. But getting four "Best Of Show" awards plus an NABShow "Product Of The Year" award? We might have to lie down for a bit! Forthwith, a look at our award-winning new product introductions from NAB 2024:
Omnia® Forza FM
We had a good idea that NAB attendees would go gaga over Forza FM, the new audio processing software for FM/HD-1/DAB. But winning two prestigious awards, including NAB Product Of The Year, shows just how ready radio is for Omnia-grade virtualized processing.
A major software update for the Jünger Audio AIXpressor and flexAIserver made the editors of TVB Europe sit up and take notice. With the addition of SMPTE ST 2110-30/31, Livewire+ AoIP, NMOS IS-04 and IS-05 compatibility, and much more, flexAI is truly a world-class audio processing platform. Read all about it
25-Seven® PDMX
What's better than a "Dump" button in the rack? A "Dump" button on talent's phone, tablet or PC! PDMX is a virtualized version of the industry-standard PDM II Program Delay Manager, with all its features and capabilities, but hosted in the cloud so it's instantly accessible from anywhere. No wonder Radio World gave it a "Best Of Show" award. Check it out
Linear Acoustic®
AERO 20/200/2400
TVTech took notice of our newly-introduced range of AERO DTV processors with AEROMAX loudness control, UPMAX 2- to 5.1-channel upmixing dual, independent 3G SDI I/O paths for 1080p signals, and user-selectable metering and logging for EBU R 128 or ATSC A/85. Details:AERO.20 / AERO.200 / AERO.2400
More News From NAB
Just when you thought you'd heard it all, we've got more from the show floor:
EAS At The Edge℠
Until now, EAS alerting was the final barrier to having an all-AoIP airchain. That barrier is gone now, thanks to EAS At The Edge, a collaboration between Telos Alliance, Nautel, and Digital Alert Systems announced at NAB 2024. Finally, you can have end-to-end, one-to-many distribution of EAS alert messages and metadata - with geotargeting - using your existing Livewire AoIP network. The folks at Radio World think this is a game-changer: they gave EAS At The Edge a 2024 "Best Of Show" award at NAB. Click here
Dolby Atmos For All
Broadcasters love the Linear Acoustic LA-5300 Broadcast Audio Processor because it makes it easy to deliver Next Generation Audio and immersive content to TV viewers using Dolby® AC-4 (while maintaining loudness control, upmixing, and Dolby® Digital or Dolby Digital Plus encoding). Now, LA-5300 gets even better! A software update will soon let users add Dolby Digital Plus with Atmos encoding as a licensed option to deliver immersive audio to streaming services, UHD cable, and satellite feeds.
Ever get audio contributions that are too short for the slot you've allotted, leaving an uncomfortable...gap at the end of a segment? Or worse yet - audio that's too long, throwing everybody's timing off? Sometimes you wonder if VO talent have ever heard of timers! Luckily, AudioTools Server has a solution for messes like these: the Frame Rate Toolbox, which not only automates stretching and squeezing audio content to fit your workflows but also trims silences and corrects phase issues. Read about it in our latest blog post.
Sidebar: Iffy Ideas
We all love seeing what's new at trade shows. Sometimes there are ideas and new products that bowl you over, with the potential to revolutionize the industry landscape. But not every new idea is a hands-down winner: witness the Pliers Wrench (an actual product!) shown above. No, some ideas simply don't work. You want examples, you say? Well then, prepare to be amused as you check out these clinkers that appeared at this year's CES show, courtesy of our friends at CNET. Really, who wouldn't want a toothbrush with a touchscreen?
